Reviving India's Glorious Wine Heritage
Perched 850 meters above sea level, Narayangaon is a tiny hamlet tucked away in the picturesque Sahyadri Valley. Primarily an agrarian society, the village was lost in the mists of time. The mists gave away 1979. That was the year we at Chateau Indage established our first vineyard. Our vision was clearly to revive the ancient heritage of classic Indian Wines.
Although an uphill task, we started with a modest 250-acre vineyard. After seven years and a first harvest, we decided to spread our wings. Today our vineyards cover over 1,000 acres of prime vine plantations. Plans for further expansion are under way. Within the next two years, we will add another 2,500 acres under cultivation.
At Chateau Indage, we have always adhered to the international viticulture practices of grafting specially imported vines onto rootstalks. We have successfully done this with grape varieties specially flown in from France. These include all-time favorites like Chardonnay, Ugni Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. We are also proud to revive the use of ancient Indian grape varieties for wine-making as Arkesham and Arkavati Grapes.
Thanks to Narayangaon's lime-rich, Chalky soil and the controlled macro-climate in the Sahyadri Valley, our vineyards produce truly world-class grapes. You can be sure that every harvest produces grapes of the finest quality and pristine purity.
The same holds true for our products. Each and every bottle of wine illustrates the painstaking craftsmanship that goes into their making. Our wines are produced in our state-of-the-art wineries, built in technical collaboration with Piper Heidsieck - the reputed French wine makers. All these elements combined, results in a bottle that is truly a connoisseur's delight. A bottle of fine wine that has made us the pioneers is bringing the renaissance of classic wines in India.
